Mike Cubbin

Experience & Background

Mike Cubbin joined the firm in March 2022 as Chief Operating Officer and has responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of Spire’s operations.

Mike is an experienced leader and manager.  He started life as an officer in the British Army and has a background in engineering, aviation, procurement, strategic communications and safety regulation.  He was an instructor at the Army’s staff college and commanded the Army Air Corps’ training regiment.  He has worked in the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall for many years in various roles and has considerable experience of working with numerous government departments in support of a range of activities.  Since leaving the Army he has been the CEO of a small regional law firm, a volunteer fund-raiser for the Royal British Legion and most recently has been Chief of Staff of Public Health England (now the UK Health Security Agency) NW region, providing leadership and management support to the PHE Senior Leadership Team during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Having tried (and enjoyed) many interesting sports and outdoor activities during his career he is now more routinely found pottering in his garden, doing DIY tasks in his workshop or enjoying the company of his wife, dogs, cats and chickens.  He retains a passion for hill walking and escapes to the hills whenever he can.
